Garden Mates Needed

Equipment provided

Volunteers required to provide gardening assistance to clients who are unable to maintain their gardens. We encourage clients to garden with their Garden Mate, which offers an opportunity for you to make a lasting friendship and enables the client to maintain a connection with their garden.

Volunteers are matched with a suitable client. Ongoing support provided. Some knowledge of and interest in gardening is expected from potential Garden Mates.

SPDL Inc. is a community-based not-for-profit organisation that is managed by an elected Committee of Management. Utilising the skills and enthusiasm of volunteers, SPDL Inc. provides a number of services aimed at keeping people in touch with the community and enhancing their quality of life

What is our purpose?

The purpose for which South Port Day Links Inc. (SPDL) was established is: -
TO PROMOTE AND ENABLE EQUALITY OF ACCESS AND OPPORTUNITY FOR FRAIL AGED PEOPLE, PEOPLE WITH A DISABILITY, AND THOSE THAT CARE FOR THEM, SO THAT THEY CAN MAINTAIN THEIR INDEPENDENCE AND LINKS TO THE LOCAL COMMUNITY.

Our target group are frail elderly people, people with a disability, and those that care for them.

Who Funds SPDL Inc.?

SPDL is funded by the Department of Human Services, under the HACC (Home & Community Care) program and therefore we must conform to the principles, guidelines, policies and procedures as laid down by the Department.
The aim of the HACC program is to provide a comprehensive and integrated range of flexible basic services for frail aged and other people with a disability, and their carers and to help these people to be more independent at home and in the community, thereby preventing their inappropriate admission to long term residential care and enhancing their quality of life.

Our objectives

The objectives of SPDL Inc. are to:

  • Assist people in the Home and Community Care (HACC) target group to access community and shopping facilities, to attend HACC programs and social, recreational, educational and cultural activities.
  • Provide opportunities for social contact
  • To promote and enhance confidence and independence
  • Identify and respond to transport issues on behalf of the HACC target group
  • Liaise with other service providers to avoid service duplication and ensure ease of access for the HACC target group.
